Recently on my Facebook page, I asked what sorts of recipes you all were interested in, and more than one of you mentioned crock pot meals. This recipe is as easy as it gets, and the crock pot (being one of my top 3 favorite kitchen gadgets) is in heavy rotation in my kitchen.

These flavors blend nicely for fall and turkey should be increasingly easier to find in the market, but feel free to get creative and mix up different combinations of spices and vegetables (or even use chicken instead).

This Crockpot Turkey Breast recipe is as easy as it gets, and the crock pot is in heavy rotation in my kitchen.



  • 2-3 lb. bone-in turkey breast
  • 1 large onion
  • 4-5 carrots
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 lemon or orange
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Herbs de Provence
  • Sea salt and pepper


  1. Prepare the veggies: rough chop the onion and slice the carrots (fairly chunky since you don’t want them to disintegrate in the crock pot).
  2. Put the onion and carrot into the crock pot.
  3. Place the turkey breast on top of the veggies.
  4. Sprinkle the turkey breast generously with Herbs de Provence, sea salt and pepper.
  5. Slice the lemon or orange, and arrange the pieces on top of the turkey.
  6. Pour the cranberries over the top.
  7. Pour about ½ cup of water into the bottom of the crock pot.
  8. Set the crock pot on LOW for approximately 5-6 hours (you may want to increase the time if the turkey breast is very large).

Other vegetable / spices combinations:

  1. add cubed raw butternut squash or sweet potato
  2. cumin + chili powder + garlic + smoked paprika with sliced bell peppers and onions
  3. rosemary + garlic
  4. Ras el Hanout spice blend

  1. Do you think a boneless turkey breast “roast” would work? The ones I’ve seen have a netting around them? I’m having a holiday party am looking for “low maintenance” recipes that wont take a lot of my attention. Was the end product juicy?

    1. Hi Rachael…as long as the “roast” is raw and not one of those precooked/reheat-and-eat versions. It came out juicy, yes. One thing I would do to guarantee the turkey be juicy is to brine it first. Have you ever tried that?

      1. I have not tried brining but that’s a good idea! I went ahead and bout a bone in breast. I hope it wont be too difficult to slice up. I have a brine recipe from Melissa Joulwan, I’ll brine it overnight and then throw it in the day of the party!

  2. This was delicious – made it last night with a boneless turkey breast. It cooked quicker – done in about 4h 45m on low. Really a nice wintry meal.

  3. Making this again today with an orange, the herbs de provence, carrots and onions. I have a 5 lb turkey this time though so hopefully that works out with a bit more cooking time. Made it last time with sweet potatoes, onion, carrots, and the cumin spice combo. Amazing!

  4. @ Courtnie, Do you peel the sweet potatoes or just cut ’em up and throw them in? I’ve never cooked them in a crock pot before.

    1. Hi Kathy! I do peel them first because the skin of potatoes (white or sweet) contains anti-nutrients.

  5. I cook turkey breast frozen over night in the crockpot on a regular basis. Cheatin’, I know, but easy.

  6. Can I cook a whole turkey using this recipe? What do you think the cook time would be? Its a small-medium size turkey, I don’t know the lb amount off hand. It can fit in my slow cooker though!

  7. Has anyone tried this with a different cut of meat? Would chicken breasts work (maybe skin on bone in breasts?), or maybe a pork tenderloin? Thanks!

    1. Whole chickens work great! Be careful with a cut of meat like pork tenderloin though…because it’s so lean it tends to get dry so you’d have to adjust the cooking time down.

  8. I’ve made this twice with your original recipe using a boneless turkey breast and cooked 5 hours, very juicy! I bought custom oil and vinegar that I’m trying it with today. Rosemary oil and Italian lemon vinegar, used sea salt, carrots, onions and topped woth sliced lemon. I’m sure it will be great. Thank you for this awesome recipe!

  9. This looks delicious! I. Going to buy a boneless turkey breast and try it tomorrow. What would you substitute for the cranberries in the original recipe? Are they essential to keeping the meat from drying out?

      You can omit them if you can’t find them. They provide a little tartness but aren’t essential.

    I made this yesterday and it came out alright! I couldn’t find turkey breasts at my local grocer, so I got some chicken leg quarters instead, cooked it for about 7 hours on low, and it had a lot of extra liquid. I might try it again with less (or no) water, but do you think it would be possible to oven roast this same dish to get a crispier, browned bird?

    1. Oh yes…you won’t get a crisp result in the slow cooker because it requires moisture to cook. You can roast turkey breast, yes.

  11. A little worried about the LOW temp for 5 to 6 hours. Just double checking that is what you did. Most other crock pot turkey breast recipes I’m finding are cooking 8 hours on low, or an hour on high and then 5 to 7 hours more on low. It’s already past noon, so I don’t have 8 hours here. Ha ha! Going to put it on high for a couple and then shift it to low. I hate when I google too many recipes then second guess myself!
