Mornings: Time to Get Up & Go

Even though laid back Southern California is where I make my home, I grew up in the Northeast. That means when morning comes, I like to get up and go!

6:00 am

I naturally wake up on the early side, generally between 5:30 and 6:00 am. Once I’m up, I start by drinking 16 ounces of filtered water plus lemon – gotta get hydration kicked off – followed by cold brew coffee. I check email. Then, most mornings, I’m out the door for Brazilian jiujitsu class.

7:00 am 

It’s time for BJJ! I love getting class done early in the day. And, I always finish my training session with Puori PW1 protein plus coconut water. (Dark Chocolate is my favorite.) Since I work out five to six times a week, a protein shake post-workout helps me stay on top of recovery.

9:00 am 

By now, I’m home and it’s time for a shower and some breakfast. Most days, I heat up leftovers from dinner for my breakfast. Or, I’ll make a quick soup with homemade bone broth, leftover chicken, veggies, and quinoa. And I always include a serving of fermented veggies for good measure.

10:00 am

Now, it’s time to get to work. I’ve been working for myself for over five years now, and each day looks a little different. I might record a podcast, work on a blog post, write a newsletter, photograph a recipe, and of course, post on social media. Often, it’s a combination of those things. I’ll normally work until 1 or 2 pm, when it’s time to stop for lunch.

Afternoons: Tie Up Loose Ends

2:00 pm 

Now it’s time for lunch! I love to throw together a green smoothie for an extra veggie punch served with a side of protein. Or, I might make a tuna salad with plenty of veg. I usually take Puori SB3 Synbiotics with my meal.

Often, I’ll sit outside and eat because if I’m not mindful, I get sucked into checking social media during meals. #workinprogress

3:00 pm 

Now it’s time for a little more work. I’ll check on my Facebook groups and social media again, answer emails, and do client check-ins. My best creative time is in the morning, so I save less demanding tasks until the afternoon. Typically, I’ll work until about 6:00 pm.

Sometimes I’ll pop out onto the porch for a quick Made Strong workout if I didn’t head to BJJ in the morning.

Evenings: Wind Down

6:00 pm

Dinner time with a balanced plate of protein, carbs – including veggies – and healthy fats. When the sun goes down, I also put my amber glasses on to reduce ambient blue light. (Blue light from electronic devices can interfere with melatonin production and therefore, sleep.)

7:00 pm

Now it’s time to unwind. I might watch Netflix, read, have a cup of tea, or listen to a singing bowl meditation. I’m not a morning meditator, and I’ve found that evening works best for me.

9:00 pm

By now, I’m ready to prep for bed. I’m a huge creature of habit, and I believe that a consistent bedtime routine sets the stage for restful sleep.
