About Dr. Briden:

Dr. Briden first worked as a researcher and evolutionary biologist at the University of Calgary.  She then went on to graduate as a naturopathic doctor from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto.

Her love of science and the natural world has informed the way she works with patients. She views the body as a logical, regenerative system that knows what to do when it’s given the right support. And she’s seen that principle in action with thousands of patients over her more than twenty years of clinical practice. It’s taught her something very simple:

  • Period problems respond incredibly well to nutrition and other natural treatments.


  • Hormonal birth control is NOT the only option. There are much better options for women’s health.

Her mission is to bring that message to women everywhere. To empower women to have the easy, symptomless periods that she knows to be possible and to join the worldwide “period revolution.”

Her blog is her forum to keep abreast of current research into hormonal health and to deliver that information to you. It’s also your forum to ask her questions and to help her to communicate things as clearly and simply as possible. (Because women’s health is not as complicated or mysterious as it has been made out to be!)

  4. This was just the best…why don’t we talk about this more?!?! I’m 28 now and I think things worked out okay for me, but I SO wish I had had this kind of information years ago. Like many teenage girls, I went on the pill at 17 because of painful periods. It was presented as really the only option. Except by painful periods that meant I was in so much pain I couldn’t go to school/work and it was common for my period to involve vomiting the first day or so. But it ran in my family, so it “wasn’t a big deal.” Anyway, fast forward through years that included the pill making my period go away for 1+ years and SO MANY digestive issues simply diagnosed as IBS.

    About 4-5 years ago I started my ever evolving “health journey.” It started with paleo eating and crossfit and I’ve just learned so much about my body and am much more in tune with what it needs. For the most part, I can keep my digestive issues at bay through diet and avoiding my trigger foods. But the pill thing still always bothered me. My doctor at the time (and really only option since I was/am in graduate school) was very against the idea of going off the pill. But the more I read on my own, the more I felt it went completely against this new lifestyle that I was leading. I took myself off anyway about 2 years ago, but was kind of in the dark and felt like I had no resources. It took about 6 months for me to get my period back and another 4 months for it to become regular. It was a concerning time for me, but not something I ever really talked about.

    Now my period comes like clockwork on it’s own. I still have a hard time on the first day of my cycle and it’s something I’d like to look in to more. I feel as though taking krill oil and magnesium regularly has helped, but that more can be done.

    My first instinct was to apologize for the long-winded response…but I feel like you would tell me not to! So instead, I will say thank you 🙂 Thank you for letting me take up space. Thank you for providing a space for open dialogue and sharing experiences. Thank you for giving women resources to make informed decisions about THEIR OWN bodies. I appreciate your voice and everything you do. Much love here <3
